Tasty Talks

Talks by local experts about their specialist subjects at four ticketed events. The first three tasty talks, in the Wells Cathedral Education Room, will include a unique 30-minute Taster Tour of Wells Cathedral. The talk by William Sitwell is in the Undercroft at The Bishop’s Palace.

Ales, Trails and Snails – Christopher Somerville

11.30 am Wells Cathedral Education Room, followed by Cathedral Taster Tour

Christopher Somerville, walking correspondent of The Times, follows his taste buds around the Mendip Hills and adjacent lands.

Farm – Kate Lynch

1.00 pm Wells Cathedral Education Room, followed by Cathedral Taster Tour

Kate Lynch, local artist and social historian, who has spent nearly twenty years documenting traditional Somerset farming and crafts, will talk about her latest book, FARM – Paintings, drawings and Somerset voices.

Kate will be available to sign copies of her book in Wells Town Hall, Parkes Room at 11 am – 12 pm and 2 – 3 pm. Click here for more details

A Cider Tour of the UK – Bob Chaplin

2.00 pm Wells Cathedral Education Room, preceded by Cathedral Taster Tour, starting at 1.00 pm

Bob Chaplin, local cider expert, will give a cider tasting tour of the UK, comparing ciders from different parts of the country.

Eggs or Anarchy – William Sitwell

12.00 pm The Bishop’s Palace Undercroft

William Sitwell, Masterchef food critic and writer, will talk about his book, Eggs or Anarchy, which reveals how Lord Woolton, Minister for Food, fed the people of Britain during the Second World War. The talk will include a tasting of Woolton Pie, recreated for the occasion by The Unusual Pork Pie Company from Shepton Mallet.

Walton’s Facade at Cedars Hall

William Sitwell narrates his great aunt’s entertainment with BBC newsreader Zeb Soanes, as well as the world premiere of a new music-theatre work based on his book, Eggs or Anarchy, at Cedars Hall, Wells on Sunday 8 October at 5.30 pm. Click here for more information.
