Community Groups

Wells Town Hall, Parkes Room

Stalls with information from local community groups and organisations:

Coeliac Society

People with coeliac disease have to follow a strict gluten free diet. We are the local group of Coeliac UK and we offer support to people with the disease by organising talks, meals out, cookery demonstrations and other events. Come along for a chat and pick up free leaflets and advice sheets, or visit the website.

Rotary Club of Wells

Wells Rotary Club offers fantastic opportunities for like-minded people to join together in offering help and assistance to the local community, to young people and to international projects. Locally we run the reindeer parade and the boules tournament. We run competitions to assist youth development – youth speaks competitions, young chefs competitions, young photographer competitions, sponsored exchanges – and we also get involved in many international projects.

The City of Wells Lions Club

Wells Lions have served our community since 1975. We have raised over £200,000 for charities and good causes and this year have distributed over £12,000, mostly locally. We stage two of the biggest free outdoor events in Wells – the May Fair and Moat Boat Races. We support vulnerable people, wherever there’s a need, encourage our youth to have a positive involvement in their community and, through the global Lions reach, give aid for disaster relief. We meet monthly, every second Monday, at The White Hart in Sadler Street, Wells at 7.30 pm and visitors are always welcome. Tel. 01749 671596.

Wells Civic Society

Wells Civic Society is a very active organisation which brings together those with an interest in the historic built environment of the city, as well as its past, present and future well-being. It offers monthly meetings to broaden knowledge and understanding, through talks and events, monitors planning and development, offering contributions from the collective experience and skills of its members. It initiates and partners projects within the city, including a programme of plaques awarded to local businesses and marking special places and people. For further information contact Chris Winter or visit the website.

Wells WI

Wells WI is a welcoming group of inspirational women who meet monthly to enjoy a wide variety of speakers, demonstrations and activities. We have many social groups within our WI that find us coming together for walks, nights at the theatre, craft evenings or just coffee and a chat. We meet in Wells Museum on the first Tuesday of the month at 7.30 pm. Visitors are always welcome.
